What Is Nasal Reconstruction (SeptoRhinoplasty)?
Nasal reconstruction – also called septorhinoplasty – involves any nasal work following trauma to the nose such as: nasal fracture, facial fracture, difficulty breathing, or skin cancer repair. Dr. Monica Tadros offers nasal reconstruction surgical procedures to correct the nose in order to restore function and improve the cosmetic appearance.
This entails surgical treatment of a nasal injury in an effort to bring the nose back to its pre-injury state. If the nasal injury is very recent (within days), correcting or improving nasal deviation may be possible without surgery. Reconstructive rhinoplasty may be covered partly or entirely by medical insurance. Dr. Monica Tadros, M.D. facial plastic surgeon specializes in nasal reconstruction for her patients in NYC & NJ, including Bergen County.
Dr. Tadros accepts most POS and PPO insurances for any medical issues related to the nose as an out-of-network provider.
Nasal Reconstruction Procedure
Dr. Tadros will either use local anesthesia with sedation – or general anesthesia depending upon your procedure. Nasal reconstruction can take from 45 minutes to several hours – depending upon the extensiveness, complexity and whether or not you are having a combination of procedures.
Incisions are made either inside the nose or outside (depends upon your surgery) and splints are usually required after reconstructive nasal surgery. Dr. Tadros uses the most advanced and refined techniques to correct deviated septums and remove any obstructions as well as to reshape the nose.
If facial reconstruction is being done after cancer removal – Dr. Tadros may use Moh’s reconstruction to restore a normal, pleasing appearance and function. Swelling, bruising and some discomfort is normal and to be expected with any surgery – but especially with nasal surgery.
You will need to sleep with your head elevated on 2-3 pillows while healing takes place and to help reduce swelling. Dr. Tadros's patients easily manage discomfort with oral pain medication while it resolves over a few days.
Ideal Candidates
Anyone who has suffered trauma to the face and/or nose and who needs to correct nasal function and form is a good candidate for nasal reconstruction. The best nasal surgeon in New Jersey will determine the treatment best suited to your specific needs and will individualize your treatment plan.
If you desire a “nose job” for correction from previous surgery – or just because you don’t like the nose you have – you should be at least 15 years of age to ensure your nose is fully developed.
Recovery
You will be restricted from strenuous activities such as bending, lifting, straining, and working out until Dr. Tadros tells you it’s ok to resume normal activities – usually three weeks.
