What is Juvederm XC Injections?

Juvederm XCOver time, your face changes in many ways. This is part of the normal aging process, but genetics and environmental factors can also play a role. You may notice a change in the appearance of your skin, typically in the form of deepening parentheses lines and wrinkles. But what may be less obvious is age-related mid-face volume loss.

Juvéderm® XC is an FDA-approved dermal filler, specifically formulated to add volume to the skin around the mouth and nose that has been lost due to the natural aging process. This injectable gel restores a youthful contour to the face, plumping up the area and softening lines, facial wrinkles, and folds.

The main component in Juvéderm XC is hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally within the human body, which hydrates and supports the skin. Over time, the levels of hyaluronic acid produced by the body begin to decline, leading to changes in facial definition. Juvéderm XC naturally integrates into the skin, restoring levels of hyaluronic acid and stimulating the growth of firmer, more youthful-looking skin.

Juvederm XC In Depth

The JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). What’s interesting about HA is that it’s a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA.

What does it treat?

Formulations contain a naturally occurring sugar called hyaluronic acid, which has the remarkably helpful property of binding to water. As the acid attracts water, it “plumps up” the skin, filling and smoothing out any surface wrinkles. In essence, it helps replace the cushion of fatty tissue that we lose as we age and as our skin becomes damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet light.

JUVÉDERM XC is typically used for:

  • Parentheses (Smile) Lines: Parentheses lines are static lines that appear when your face is at rest. This happens over time as your skin loses some of the building blocks (hyaluronic acid and collagen) that give the skin its structure.
  • Corner Lines
  • Marionette Lines
  • Vertical Lip Lines

Literally, kiss those lines Goodbye!

Ideal Candidates for Juvéderm®

Ideal candidates for Juvéderm® XC are healthy adults over the age of 21 who have experienced noticeable signs of aging around the mouth or nose, including fine lines, wrinkles or facial folds. While more common among older adults, younger men and women may also experience these issues due to various factors such as genetics, weight loss, and illness.

Patients who are pregnant or who have severe allergies are not considered candidates for treatment with Juvéderm XC. To determine if you are a good candidate for this non-surgical procedure, please contact our plastic surgeon in Englewood, NJ for a consultation today.

The Juvéderm® XC Procedure

Juvéderm® XC injections take about 15 minutes to complete and are administered in a medical office. Juvéderm XC is injected under the skin with a small needle, adding volume deep within the areas surrounding the nose or mouth. The gel formula contains lidocaine, a numbing agent, to prevent patients from experiencing pain during treatment.

Improvements in the skin will be visible immediately after the procedure. There is no downtime required following treatment with Juvéderm XC, and most patients can resume their normal daily activities after their treatment session. While the results of Juvéderm XC are not permanent, they are very long-lasting, with some patients achieving results that last for up to one year.

What are Juvéderm® Side Effects?

While Juvéderm® XC is considered a safe procedure when performed by an experienced cosmetic surgeon in NJ, there are possible side effects associated with the use of any dermal filler. The most common side effects of Juvéderm XC treatment may include swelling, infection, bruising, itchiness, skin discoloration and discomfort. When these complications do arise, they are generally moderate and subside within a few weeks.
