What is Facial
Reconstruction Surgery?
Facial reconstruction refers to a complex surgery to provide motion or “animation” to the face of an NJ patient who has suffered facial paralysis.
Facial reconstruction and restoration surgery can achieve “reanimation” after just one highly specialized operation, or may require procedures to be staged. Utilizing microsurgical techniques, a muscle from the inner thigh is transplanted to the affected side of the face, reconnecting nerves and blood vessels. Dr. Monica Tadros specializes in facial reconstruction surgery for her patients in NYC & NJ.
Dr. Tadros in the Center for Face Plastic Surgery accepts most POS and PPO insurance in NYC & NJ for any medical issues as an out of network provider. Please contact us today or call NYC: (201) 408-5430 or NJ: (201) 408-5430.
Facial Reconstruction In Depth
How does Facial Reconstruction Surgery work?
Facial reconstruction surgery is the use of surgery to restore the form and function of the face after trauma. Although there are conditions where facial paralysis has resolved over time, and normal form and function of facial features progressively restore themselves, therapy or surgical treatment is often needed to reanimate the face.
Facial paralysis restoration surgery primarily seeks to restore symmetry to the smile. Associated procedures can also be performed to establish eyelid closure and to fill areas were affected muscle atrophy has occurred. In facial restoration surgery, plastic surgeon Dr. Tadros will attempt to rebalance the smile by restoring function in the paralyzed area. In cases of partial or complete paralysis, functioning muscles may be moved into those regions with the goal of restoring balance and form.
